Fredric A. Cohen is a seasoned litigator, trial lawyer and appellate advocate who represents clients in state and federal trial and appellate courts across the United States and in alternative dispute resolution forums such as arbitration and mediation.
Ric’s background includes extensive commercial litigation experience in areas including contract disputes, antitrust, technology, intellectual property, valuation, and securities actions and for nearly two decades, Ric has represented many of the nation’s most prominent franchise, licensing and distribution companies in a wide variety of lawsuits from complex multi-forum class action litigation to standard enforcement actions.
Ric has extensive experience protecting franchisor’s intellectual property rights like trademarks and trade secrets, defending against fraud, breach of contract, good faith and fair dealing, tortious interference, registration and disclosure violations and similar claims, and prosecuting and defending claims among competitors. Ric has also represented franchisors in connection with state and federal regulatory inquiries and investigations.
Ric speaks and writes frequently on topics of interest to the franchise industry. Most recently he delivered the Judicial Update at the International Franchise Association’s 2007 Legal Symposium. His recent article entitled “Enforceability of Pre-Dispute Jury Waivers” appeared in the September 2007 edition of LJN’s Franchising Business & Law Alert.
