Program Description

The Six Sigma Green Belt Certification Exam Preparation Program is a 48 class-hour program designed to help the student prepare for the ASQ CSSGB (Certified Six Sigma Green Belt) exam. The program covers all subject matter areas currently tested by ASQ while orienting the student to a reference source that can be brought into the exam. The course includes access to supplemental learning materials including subject matter videos as well as practice problems with solutions and practice exams.

Course Prerequisites

No Six Sigma background is required, however, a working knowledge of descriptive statistics is advised, and knowledge of inferential statistics is preferred.

Learning Outcomes

The learning outcomes for the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Prep Class are consistent in content and knowledge level with the published ASQ Green Belt Body of Knowledge (BOK). These include the ability to apply:

  • Concepts of Lean and Six Sigma (LSS) to support the outcomes and strategies of organizations
    • What is Six Sigma and where did it come from?
    • Lean: Value-add versus non-value-added activities; waste
    • LSS proactively when creating and reviewing processes
  • Define
    • Methods to define processes
    • Methods to collect customer requirements and analyze customer data
    • Seven process management tools
    • Process elements analysis including performance assessment and failure analysis
    • Project management basics: charter, scope and outcome metrics, planning, documentation, risk analysis and closure
    • Team dynamics, roles and responsibilities, and performance techniques
  • Measure
    • Process mapping: inputs, outputs and process flows
    • Probability and statistics: apply descriptive and inferential statistical methods, apply central limit theorem to determine confidence intervals and process control charts
    • Collect and summarize data using descriptive statistics and graphical techniques
    • Compare data to common probability distributions
    • Evaluate measurement system capabilities using repeatability and reproducibility taking into account precision and tolerance
    • Assess process capability
  • Analyze
    • Create and interpret multi-vari studies and interpret simple linear correlation and regression
    • Apply hypothesis testing and distinguish between type I and type II errors; determine appropriate sample sizes
    • Determine if there are significant changes to means, variances and proportions
  • Improve and Control
    • Define and describe basic design of experiments terms and be able to interpret main effects and interaction plots
    • Construct attribute and variables statistical control charts and distinguish between common and special cause patterns
    • Assess improvement levels and validate solutions
    • Assist in developing control plans to document and hold gains, and monitor systems

ASQ Credential Eligibility Criteria

Six Sigma Green Belts are employees who spend some of their time on process improvement teams. They analyze and solve quality problems, and are involved with Six Sigma, lean or other quality improvement projects. The Six Sigma Green Belt certification requires three years of work experience in one or more areas of the Six Sigma Green Belt Body of Knowledge. Work experience must be in a full time, paid role. Paid intern, co-op or any other course work cannot be applied towards the work experience requirement. Educational waivers are not granted. ASQ registration deadline for the June 7 exam, which is being given at NSU, is April 18.
