Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certification Today’s healthcare organizations are under extreme pressure to improve the health of their patients as well as the health of their bottom line. As a result, it has become essential for the Healthcare industry to adapt Lean Six Sigma practices to improve operational effectiveness and create a culture of continuous improvement. Compelling evidence of the benefits to be achieved in healthcare through adaptation of these practices has led The Joint Commission (TJC) to recommend using Lean Six Sigma methods to enhance achieving overall operational excellence.

Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certification:

Upon successful completion of all requirements for this course, participants will receive a certificate stating that he/she is Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt. There is no examination that needs to be completed for certification. Instead, certification is achieved through:

~ Instructor-led Training:
The first step in a participant's journey to certification is instructor-led classroom training. In addition to the instruction, participants will enjoy in-class discussions as well as individual and group labs.
~ Individual Assignments:
Participants will be given a few assignments that they complete on their own time during and after classroom training. Because our goal is to train resourceful Yellow Belts, participants will be allowed to use any resources available to them, including course notes, texts and other books, Internet content and news sites and mentors, including those provided by NSU.

Program Description

Most healthcare provider organizations have evolved into complex interdependent structures with three underlying purposes: Treatment Management, Operational Management and Financial Management. It is a constant struggle to retain a common mission among them while managing the components within each. The good news is, you can achieve the right balance. To become operationally excellent, Healthcare organizations must:

  • Evaluate: Identify critical inconsistencies between what customer’s value and your organizational capabilities.
  • Navigate: Get everyone in the organization pulling in the same direction and create a management system to keep it that way.
  • Stabilize: Create daily operational processes required to sustain consistent results for products/services.
  • Transform: Take actions that close significant performance gaps and make sure the change sticks.

The participants will explore each phase of Six Sigma's DMAIC methodology as it relates to the operationally excellent health care organization, including, project charters, process mapping, cause-and-effect tools, simple data analysis, change management and process improvement, and basic control methods. Topics covered in class are relevant to all levels of experience. Case studies and in-class simulations allow the participant to combine and utilize concepts learned during the course.

Learning Outcomes

Because of their knowledge of Lean Six Sigma, participants who complete the course will be able to identify process improvement opportunities in their health care organization and can be a valuable resource within Lean Six Sigma project teams when improving that process, if needed.
