Business Writing Workshop For Professionals Are you swamped with e-mail and correspondence? Would you like to streamline your writing, get to the point, but still maintain courtesy and professionalism? Do you often wonder if you are using correct grammar and punctuation?

In this workshop, you will discover how to structure sentences that are not only correct, but also impressive, powerful, and efficient. You will also learn proofreading techniques to safeguard your work from careless errors. Learning these skills will save you time and money by avoiding misinterpretations, numerous edits, and re-work.


Program Description

Topics covered in the program include:

~ The importance of effective business writing
~ Improving your writing style by:
• Identifying your target audience and customizing your message for that audience
• Writing clearly and concisely
• Eliminating redundancy
• Using the active voice
• Creating simple and forceful sentences
• Understanding commonly misused words
~ Choose an appropriate tone for your correspondence
~ Write business correspondence with clear purpose statements, action statements, and a logical sequence
~ Use proper e-mail etiquette and style
~ Understand correct use of punctuation marks
~ Identify major parts and structure of sentences
~ Tips and techniques for faster, more powerful writing
~ Techniques to proofread more effectively

~ Review effective strategies and techniques for written communication in 21st century organizations
~ Describe 'quick tricks' to increase effectiveness in e-mail correspondence

Program Fee

For the class starting May 14, 2015:

Before April 30, 2015 fee of $430 includes tuition, instructional materials, and textbook.
After April 30, 2015 fee of $460 includes tuition, instructional materials, and textbook.

Instructor

Louisa Rogers, Ed.D.

Dr. Louisa Rogers has been an educator for over 30 years, starting as an Assistant Professor of Writing and Communication Skills at Rutgers University in New Jersey. She has been an Adjunct Professor or Visiting Professor at more than 15 universities in New Jersey, New York and Florida, where she taught a wide variety of graduate and undergraduate writing courses. In addition, she has developed business writing and communication curriculum as well as two English as a Second Language programs.

Dr. Rogers currently teaches Writing in Forensic Accounting, Communicating Business Information, Business Writing, and Professional and Technical Writing. She earned her Doctorate degree from Rutgers University in English Education and her Masters of Literature and Bachelors of English from Hunter College, City University of New York.

In order to participate in any Hudson Center program, registration and payment in full is required at least one (1) business day prior to the start date of the program. Participants are strongly urged to register as early as possible in order to guarantee a seat as class size is limited and enrollment is on a space-available basis.

We accept the following forms of payment: check (payable to "Nova Southeastern University") and credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or American Express). Payment arrangements must be made for your registration to be considered complete.


Substitution, Cancellation, Fee and Transfer Policies

We realize that occasionally you need to cancel your registration. You can substitute another individual in your place at any time prior to the first day of a program.

If you wish to receive a credit toward a future program: we will allow you to transfer you registration to a future date of the same program you are enrolled in currently, provided we receive written notice two weeks prior to the start date of the class you are currently registered in. You are permitted to re-register only one time.

If you wish to receive a refund: written cancellations received 30 calendar days before a program begins will be issued a full refund, less a $150.00 processing fee; written cancellations received 6 to 29 calendar days prior to the start of a program will get 50 percent of the registration fee refunded. We apologize but we cannot provide a refund if we receive your written cancellation in five or fewer business days prior to the start of the program.

In the event of non-payment, the responsibility for any fees incurred in collecting the payment is the responsibility of the customer.
