Dr. Peter FinleyAssistant Dean for Undergraduate Affairs and
Associate Professor of Sport Management
Peter Finley's approach to sports parallels his approach to life: focus on the process of preparing, be positive, compete with passion, and success will follow. This philosophy worked for him as a high school teacher and head coach of a high school track team in Michigan, where he transformed a mediocre program into a powerhouse, producing a succession of All-State athletes who went on to compete at the collegiate level. It's also a philosophy he applies in his classroom.
Finley spent several years in coaching and sport camp management and participated on a consulting team that researched marketing programs for a variety of sport entities. He brings his real-world experience into the classroom to illustrate to his students that there is often a disconnect between theory and practice in sport marketing and management. “Sometimes students are surprised to hear about the challenges they will face,” said Finley. “I try to illuminate these issues and help students see how they can bridge the gap as the sports managers of the future.”
