FIN 3125 - Investment Management


I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is an examination of investment with an emphasis on creating stock portfolios and selecting mutual funds. Theoretical concepts in portfolio analysis are supplemented with data gathering and computerized analysis of investment. Prerequisite: FIN 3010. Credit cannot be obtained for both this course and FIN 3120.

( FIN 3010 OR FINC 3010 )

III. LEARNING OUTCOMES
1)        To provide the basics of investment instruments; e.g. to explain what is a bond and how is it different from common stock.
2)        To then advance from understanding the different investment tools, to forming investment strategies; e.g. how to create an individual investment portfolio.
3)        To create a portfolio requires an understanding of risk-return analysis, which we will discuss in some detail.
4)        Since all investing is impacted by external economic factors, we will study both national and international factors that may necessitate changing the investment strategy.
