FIN 3130 - Securities Analysis


I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
Securities Analysis: Builds on the foundation of investment management developed in FIN 3120 by focusing on the management of funds of institutional investors, including insurance companies, pension funds, and foundations. Prerequisite: FIN 3120 or FIN 3125.

III. LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Compute holding period, current yield and yield to maturity returns in bond analysis.
2. How the Efficient Markets and the Efficient Markets Hypothesis are used in constructing      investment portfolios.
3. Compute security returns using CAPM and APT models.
4. Evaluate portfolio performance using Sharpe, Treynor, and Jensen index values.
5. Perform asset allocation decisions.
6. Examine behavioral finance topics and apply to personal investments.
7. Compute rates of return and value securities.
8. Perform bond pricing and managing bond portfolios
9. Perform statistical analysis and create security market lines.
10. Construct efficient combinations and compute the mean and variance of an efficient set.
11. Use of software to build bond analysis models.
12. Use software to build portfolio optimization models for two-asset and multiple-asset portfolios. Analyze international investments through inter-country and inter-country correlational analysis.
