HRM 4160 - Human Resource Management


I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
Surveys personnel policies, techniques, and methods. Topics include wage and salary management, personnel selection and placement, labor relations, and employee rights.

II. PREREQUISITES
Not required

III. LEARNING OUTCOMES
1)        To understand and appreciate the significant competitive, legal and social issues that affect productivity, quality of work life and organizational success in today's world of work.
2)        To identify major legislation that impact personnel such as the Civil Rights Acts, the Equal Pay Act and the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
3)        To develop a working knowledge of the employment tools needed to manage human resources effectively including job analysis and design, human resource planning and employee development.
4)        To examine current compensation and motivation practices used by organizations to improve employee performance and productivity.
5)        To appreciate the historical development of labor relations in the United States as well as current issues in the administration of collective bargaining contracts and the handling of employee grievances.
6)        To learn how organizations provide for the health and safety of employees, assess the costs and benefits of human resource management activities and respond to the challenges of international human resource management.
