HRM 4300 - Managing Workplace Diversity


I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
Prepares students to manage in the diverse work place. Emphasis is on practical, experiential classroom activities designed to help students understand the range of cultural behaviors and expectations found in the work place.

II. PREREQUISITES
Not required

III. LEARNING OUTCOMES
1) Describe the changing composition of the American work force.
2) Recognize and address organizational problems that can obstruct the full participation of many diverse employees.
3) Describe an organizational environment that values the creativity and new opportunities inherent in a diverse work force.
4) Improve and increase effective communications between diverse groups in the work place.
5) Value organizational differences as assets instead of problems.
6) Begin developing the leadership skills necessary to manage a diverse work force.
7) Increase the understanding of similarities, as well as differences among people.
8) Describe traditional management theories in light of today's diverse environment. Specifically, understand that these theories are not universal.
9) Describe the link between the issues being discussed at the workplace, as well as the theories behind the arguments.
