Explores the context of international management and the organization of multinational firms. Topics include organizational problems in international operations, international financial management, international personnel management, relations with host governments, and comparative management. Prerequisite: INB 3550.

III. LEARNING OUTCOMES
1) Review current trends in international investment and trade while examining the present economic status of the global community given the major developments and issues in the various regions of the world. 2) Examine the major changes that are currently taking place in the political environment while understanding the legal and regulatory environment in which MNC's operate worldwide and assessing the technological developments as well as their impact on MNC's now and in the future. 3) Explain some of the ways that host countries are attempting to regulate foreign investments and why reciprocity is such and important trade issues given the actions being taken by selected IS to be more socially responsive to world problems. 4) Define the term "culture", and discuss some of the comparative ways of differentiating cultures and describe the concept of cultural values, and relate some of international differences, similarities, and changes occurring in term of both work and managerial values. Identify the major dimensions of cultural relevant to work settings, and discuss their effects on behavior in the International environment. 5) Look at and understand the impact of globalization and national responsiveness on international stategic management for doing business in countries given cross-cultural differences and similarities. 6) Define exactly what is meant by " organizational culture," and the interaction between national and M.C. culture while understanding the four most common categories of organizational culture that have been found through research while looking at the characteristics of each. 7) Define the term "communication," while looking at examples of verbal communication styles given the common downward and upward communication flows used in international communications. Examine the language, perception, culture, and nonverbal barriers to effective international communications. 8) Examine how MACS evaluate political risk and some common methods used for managing and reducing political risk via the common negotiation tactics. 9) Examine the major types of organizational structures used in handling international operations while discussing the value of subsidiary boards in overseas operations. Explain the organizational characteristics of the formalization, specialization and centralization influence on organization structures and functions. 10) Identify some of the specific performance measures that are used to control international operations while comparing and contrasting direct controls with indirect controls. Analyze some of the major factors affecting the degree of decision- making authority given to overseas units. 11) Define "motivation," while evaluating the motivation theories and assess their value to international human resource management. Discuss and evaluate the importance of job design, work centrality, and rewards in understanding how to motivate employees in an international context. 12) Assess the basic philosophic foundations and styles of managerial leadership while examining the attitudes of European managers toward leadership practices. Compare and contrast leadership style of Japan with the United States and review leadership approaches in China, the Middle East, and DC's. 13) Identify the three basic sources that MACS can tap in filling management vacancies in overseas operations using HR to develop the criteria used in identifying the best people for overseas assignments. 14) Using HR to develop and identify the training process as used in international management while noting that people from different cultures often have different learning styles. Explain how cultural assimilators work and why they are so highly regarded. 15) Define "labor relations," and the international structure of labor unions.
