ACTP 5001 - Introductory Accounting


I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
An accelerated introductory course stressing the essential elements of accounting skills that will be used in the master's degree program. Managerial uses of accounting data and preparation of financial statements will be covered in this course. Course satisfies program prerequisite of financial accounting for master's degree programs.

III. LEARNING OUTCOMES
Entrance Compentencies

All students entering this course should be computer literate, familiar with Microsoft Office 2000 or XP Edition Software, have unrestricted access to a personal computer, and have the ability to communicate effectively in writing.

Exit Competencies

The students will be able to:

1) Analyze and record business transactions using the spreadsheet model.
2) Analyze and record business transactions using traditional journal entries.
3) Understand and explain the impact of business transactions on the accounting equation.
4) Understand and explain the impact of business transactions on the financial statements.
5) Prepare the Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Statement of Stockholders' Equity and Statement of Cash Flows in proper form.
