ISM 5014 - Enterprise Information Systems


I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
Information and communication technologies are essential tools in today's global business environment. They are also important to the development of innovative business models. This course explores the use of these technologies both to build innovative systems to gain competitive advantage and also to optimize operations for competitive advantage, particularly through the use of enterprise systems. The implementation and use of these systems to build strategic partnerships and customer relationships are also discussed. Prerequisites: For Day MBA students only, ISM 5103 is required.

Entrance Competencies

All students entering this course should be computer literate, familiar with a current version of Microsoft Office, the current MS Operating system, have unrestricted access to a personal computer, Internet access and have the ability to communicate effectively in writing.

Exit Competencies

The student will:

Demonstrate an understanding of and appreciation of the role of information technology and systems in today's rapidly changing business environment, particular enterprise and inter-organizational systems.

Understand and appreciate the impact that information technology and systems have on today's emerging business models.

Understand the impact of emerging technologies on new business opportunities.

Understand how the business value of information technologies are assessed and synchronized with other important business processes and activities.

Understand and identify the competitive issues related to IT.

Understand the managerial practices that are vital for the effective leverage of information technologies.
