MGT 5020 - Managing Organizational Behavior


I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
Students will gain a working knowledge of how to manage personal, interpersonal, and group processes by having the interpersonal skills to assume responsibility for leading and promoting teamwork among diverse stakeholders. Students will learn to manage individual and group behaviors in improving organizational productivity and performance. Through experiential learning, students will learn to integrate home, work, and educational observations and experiences and to convert them into proactive practical applications for growth and renewal.

Entrance Competencies

Students are expected to have appropriate undergraduate preparation and familiarity with basic psychology. Thus the student is expected to understand:

1) The psychology of the individual and influences on behavior.
2) Biological foundations of behavior.
3) Essentials of human growth and development.
4) Learning theory.
5) Principles of perception and motivation.

Exit Competencies

Upon completion of this course, the student will have a working knowledge of and an increased capacity for:

1) Describing and discussing the basic concepts of organizational behavior and organizational development.
2) Explaining the basic theories of organizational behavior, including McGregor, Maslow, Herzberg, McClelland, Blake and Mouton, Fiedler, Vroom, Skinner and Alderfer.
3) Describing and discussing basic behavioral models of communication, motivation, performance organizational learning and development, and leadership.
4) Analyzing his/her leadership/management style.
5) Identifying, explaining, and analyzing the structure and dynamics of the small group process.
6) Listing and discussing the fundamentals of organizational change and the available strategies for change.
