I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course addresses the need for planned change focused on an organization's ability to compete over the long term. It addresses individual, team, and organization-wide interventions that can raise productivity/quality, improve competitiveness, increase skills, improve morale, and renew commitment to employee involvement. It will incorporate both the scientific and systems perspective in the use of behavioral science knowledge. In addition, students will compare and appreciate inquiry with the standard problem-solving approach as they learn about a variety of models, methods, and tools. Prerequisites: MGT 5012, ISM 5014, MKT 5017, HRM 5260, HRM 5300, HRM 5340, HRM 5360, HRM 5365, and HRM 5381.

III. LEARNING OUTCOMES
A. Entrance CompetenciesIt is expected that through prior graduate courses students will already be familiar with the major concepts and theories of: 1) Organizational behavior. 2) Individual and group behavior. 3) Managerial and leadership effectiveness. 4) Motivation and need fulfillment. 5) Organizational climate and other factors affecting performance. B. Exit Competencies 1) Define the process of organizational development and change. 2) Identify the mechanisms by which organizations plan and manage change. 3) Recognize the necessary motivation of the client system and the needed factors for change readiness. 4) Identify and experience the various elements of the client system - change agent relationship (i.e., trust, legitimacy, authority, autonomy, access accountability, negotiating, stabilizing, and terminating). 5) Develop and utilize various techniques for assessment and diagnosis of organization problems. 6) Examine the process of conflict management as a means of personal and organizational change. 7) Identify one's personal strategies for resolving conflict and to modify these if desired. 8) Examine large system intervention strategies and to select appropriate strategies for achieving desired change outcomes. 9) Develop an in-depth analysis of a specific intervention technique and to predict probable outcomes from its utilization. 10) Synthesize all of the above objectives to develop a model of intervention strategies and conflict management and to employ this in an experiential process of organizational change.
