I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course focuses on how to build and lead successful teams to strengthen the overall performance of organizations. Team building models will be analyzed with emphasis on actionable steps that can be taken to overcome common hurdles and build cohesive, high performing teams. An emphasis will be placed on the role of the leader in developing successful work teams, project teams, virtual teams, and inter-organizational teams. Prerequisites: MGT 5020 and LED 5630.

1) Distinguish a team from a work group. 2) Explain why teams can be more powerful than individuals. 3) Describe the essential elements of a team and why they are important. 4) Describe the importance of strong performance standards. 5) Understand the concept of shared leadership in teams. 6) Describe the role of top management with teams. 7) Explain how teams can help drive organizational change. 8) Recognize and address common obstacles faced by teams. 9) Explain why teams at the top of an organization can be the most difficult. 10) Understand the unique challenges faced by virtual teams. 11) Utilize a variety of tools to improve team performance.
