HRM 5385 - Organization Consultation


I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course addresses the use of internal/external consultation processes in organizations. The framework of consultation as helping organizations reach a level of optimum performance will be utilized. Organizations will be treated as learning systems. Individual consulting styles will be analyzed. Prerequisite: HRMP 5200 or equivalent.

II. PREREQUISITES
( GMPF 5200 OR HRMP 5200 OR GMP 5030 OR HRM 5030 OR MGMT 4160 OR HRM 4160 )

III. LEARNING OUTCOMES
Entrance Competencies

Students are expected to have an understanding of organizational behavior, problem analysis, general management theory and familiarity with the principles of organizational development.

Exit Competencies

Upon completion of this course, the student will have a working knowledge and an increased capacity for:

1) Explaining the multiple consultant roles.
2) Responding to requests for organizational consulting.
3) Differentiating the phases of the consulting process.
4) Building client commitment in the collaborative process.
5) Selecting and using effective diagnostic tools.
6) Identifying interventions appropriate to each phase of the process.
7) Implementing guidelines for values-based consulting practices.
8) Surfacing and dealing with resistance to change.
9) Structuring feedback to ensure results
10) Accessing resources for ongoing development in the consulting profession.
