FIN 5560 - Advanced Financial Policy


I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course covers basic financial policies as applied to real management problems and includes the areas of liquidity, capital management, funding requirements, valuation, mergers and acquisitions, and funding of new ventures. Prerequisite: Graduate level finance.

II. PREREQUISITES
( GMP 5080 OR FIN 5080 OR FIN 5815 OR GMP 5815 )

III. LEARNING OUTCOMES
A. Course Objectives

1) To develop the conceptual framework and skills required of executives with financial and investment strategy responsibilities.
2) To enhance analytical skills and to further develop oral and written communication skills.

B. Entrance Competencies

It is expected that students entering this course:

1) Able to understand presentations expressed in financial terms.
2) Familiar with the basic concepts of basic mathematics and statistics, managerial accounting, managerial economics and managerial finance.
3) Familiar with and have access to the Microsoft Excel program, and Internet.

C. Exit Competencies

Upon completion of the course, the students will be knowledgeable in the following:

1) Advanced capital budgeting techniques.
2) Concepts of real options and their applications.
3) Agency problem and corporate governance issues.
4) Corporate mergers and acquisitions.
5) Lease financing.
6) Corporate risk management.
7) Corporate use of warrants and convertibles.
