ECN 5806 - International Economics


I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
Students examine trade theory in the light of political economy, and the role of trade institutions in the regulation of international trade in goods and services. The course includes consideration of regional trading blocs and common markets, and global economic relations. Students learn about macroeconomic motivations for trade and consequent tariff and non-tariff barriers to trade by individual nations. Prerequisite: ECNP 5003 or equivalent.

II. PREREQUISITES
( GMPF 5003 OR ECNP 5003 OR ECON 2020 OR ECN 2020 )

III. LEARNING OUTCOMES
A. Entrance Competencies:

1) Students will have a basic understanding of world events, politics, and macroeconomics.
2) Students have a desire to build on their undergraduate economics, finance, and accounting knowledge at the global level.

B. Exit Competencies: Upon completion of this course, the student will have a clear understanding of the following.

1) Practical application of international trade and investment theory.
2) An understanding of the relationship between Political Economics and World Trade.
3) The ability to analyze current trade and monetary systems and use this analysis in sound decision making policies.
4) Impact of tariffs and duties as well as many policies that directly affect domestic employment and the price level.
5) The move of national economies and their business structure towards integration in the global economy.
