ACT 5809 - International Accounting


I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course examines the international dimension of financial reporting and analysis. It provides students with an in-depth look at the multinational enterprise and the preparation and presentation of financial statements in different nations. Topics covered include international corporate taxation, transfer pricing, foreign currency translation, financial disclosure, and international accounting harmonization. Prerequisite: FIN 5805.

( GMP 5805 OR FIN 5805 )

III. LEARNING OUTCOMES
A. Entrance Competencies

Through prior undergraduate and graduate courses, the student will already be familiar with the major concepts and theories of:

1) National accounting concepts and procedures.
2) Presentation and analysis of financial statements.
3) The elements of financial management.
4) Major differences between countries in economic approaches to financial reporting.

B. Exit Competencies

1) An understanding of harmonization and standardization.
2) Functional currencies and their presentation.
3) Financial Accounting Standards Board pronouncements regarding foreign investment financial reporting.
4) Accepted presentation of consolidated financial statements of multi-national enterprises.
5) The ability to analyze and compare U.S. and foreign financial statements.
6) Development of international financial accounting standards.
7) An understanding of the International Accounting Standards and the role of the International Accounting Standards Board.
