FIN 5815 - International Finance


I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
International Finance covers the broad scope of the international monetary system, examining financial markets and financial instruments. Investigating the interrelationship of foreign exchange operations with corporate financial management decisions leads students to understand the intricacies of finance, contiguous with international operations. Attention is paid to capital management and investment analysis in the context of risk exposure for foreign investment. Prerequisite: FIN 5805 and QNTP 5002.

AND ( QNTP 5002 OR GMPF 5002 OR QNT 4610 OR BUSS 4610 )

III. LEARNING OUTCOMES
A. Course Objectives

1) To develop an understanding of the environment surrounding international finance and investment including the foreign exchange markets.
2) To explore global investment opportunities for U.S. investors, and to analyze the growing importance of international finance in the movement of goods and services across national boundaries and economic growth.
3) To familiarize students with the objectives, operations, and role of multilateral financial organizations.
4) To develop the conceptual framework and skills required of executives with financial strategy responsibilities in the multinational corporate context.
5) To enhance analytical skills and to further develop oral and written communication skills.

B. Entrance Competencies

It is expected that the students entering this course:
1) Are able to understand presentations expressed in financial terms.
2) Are familiar with the basic concepts of international economics.
3) Are familiar with the basic functions of MS Excel program.
4) Are familiar with and have access to the World Wide Web.

C. Exit Competencies

Upon completion of the course, the students will be knowledgeable in the following:
1) The nature, magnitude, and importance of international finance in worldwide trade, investment, and economic growth.
2) The analysis and management of risk exposure in foreign investment.
3) The policies that can affect the nature and direction of international financial flows to recipient countries.
4) The identification, formulation, and implementation of international investment strategies for the multinational enterprise.
5) Techniques related to repositioning funds, working capital management and trade finance of multinational enterprises.
