INB 5818 - New International Ventures


I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
New International Ventures focuses on developing students abilities to prepare to start a new international business. Students develop a specific business idea, then examine the political risk, market opportunity, and operating conditions of their international market destination. The business plan is developed using market research options, entry modes, resource allocation, financial projections, and overall strategy for new ventures. The emphasis is on developing the ability of students to start a new business in another country using the business plan model. Prerequisites: ECN 5806, ACT 5809, MGT 5812, FIN 5815, INB 5821, INB 5827, and MKT 5833.

III. LEARNING OUTCOMES
A. Entrance Competencies:

It is assumed that students entering the course:

1) Will be familiar with macroeconomic principles such as GNP, GDP, inflation, unemployment ratios, currency exchange rates, exporting and importing of goods and services, customs and duties, taxation, balance of payments, etc.
2) Have completed most of the courses in the international business program as a basis for this course.
3) Developed their cognitive ability to relate international economic concepts to real-life business bottom-line situations.

B. Exit Competencies:

Students will be knowledgeable regarding:

1) Developing a comprehensive business plan for international market entry.
2) Identifying market opportunities.
3) Understanding of Country Risk Analysis, as applies to making strategic business decisions.
4) Understanding the effects of Forex on expected returns from International Ventures.
5) Familiarly with financial projections and scenario analysis.
6) Advising companies on foreign business ventures.
