I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course examines the strategic role of international human resource management in conjunction with effective organizational structures, to meet the requirements of multinational corporations. Topics include international staffing, expatriation and repatriation, training, compensation, benefits, union and employee relations, labor law, health and safety issues. Students compare country-specific HRM practices, and they discuss the future of IHRM. Prerequisite: INB 5821.

III. LEARNING OUTCOMES
A. Entrance CompetenciesIt is expected that through prior graduate courses students will already be familiar with the major concepts and theories of: 1) The environmental factors affecting managerial choice and behavior. 2) The distinctions between organizational strategy and policy as well as organizational structure. 3) Macro and micro-economic relationships and their impact on the decisions of a corporation. 4) Analysis of marketing opportunities and risks, product development and pricing, and consumer behavior. 5) The impact of government legislation or external economic/social conditions on corporate decisions. 6) The evaluation and section of corporate assets and corporate capital structure, in terms of corporate strengths/weaknesses. B. Exit Competencies 1) Be able to identify the complex, multi-dimensional factors inherent in the operating environments of different countries. 2) Understand the potential business and management practices and business organization and structures available to firms involved in international activities. 3) Be able to develop and apply the management skills and techniques used by companies in operating across national boundaries.
