MGT 6010 - Seminar in History of Management Thought


I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
The focus of the course is on a critical and analytical review of the history of management theory. Students are encouraged to compare and contrast management theories and to examine them in the critical light of practical experience. In addition, through the preparation of literature research papers, students give attention to the development of dissertation-supporting literature-review skills. There are no prerequisites for this course.

Not required

III. LEARNING OUTCOMES
A. Entrance Competencies
      
1. Knowledge of the history of administrative theory and practice. A masters-level administrative theory and practice course is a prerequisite for this course.
2. Mastery of the APA style manual.
3. Understanding of the basic rules for presentation of a good review of literature.

B. Exit Competencies
      
By the end of this course the student will have enhanced skills in:
1. Analyzing and evaluating the contributions of management theorists.
2. Comparing and contrasting management theories.
3. Understanding the impact of the environment on the development of management theory. (Management theory in historic perspective.)
4. Preparation of a scholarly review of literature.
