HRM 6325 - Seminar in Employee Relations and Services


I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course will focus on assessing, designing, implementing, managing, and evaluating various functions related to Employee Relations and Services. It provides in depth coverage of HR/OB research and measurement issues. Specific topics included in this course are: legal updates of EEO, AA, anti-discrimination legislation, current research on staffing (selection and placement) and employment practices (including interviewing, assessment and hiring) in the context of legal, ethical and financial constraints. The potential for dissertation research deriving from related areas is considered. Global/international HRM implications are also assessed. Prerequisite: MGT 6020.

III. LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon completion of this course experience and its learning assignments, each student should be:

1.         Prepared to address HR ER&S trends in a professional peer discussion;
2.        Understand how to audit an organization¿s HR Staffing Plan;
3.        Capable of communicating, explaining, implementing, and evaluating appropriate Staffing and HR support activities;
4.        Capable of communicating, explaining, implementing, and evaluating appropriate internal and external recruiting procedures and related activities;
5.        Capable of communicating, explaining, implementing, and evaluating appropriate internal and external selection, employment and safety procedures and related activities;
6.        Knowledgeable about international HRM issues related to ER&S;
7.        Understand how to conduct applied research around Employee Relations and Service issues for the HSBE publication and dissertation requirements.
