FIN 6510 - Seminar in International Finance


I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is designed to 1) extend the student's knowledge of corporate finance and investment to the international arena, and 2) direct the student's effort to publish in a refereed journal. The current academic research will be covered in the areas of foreign exchange market efficiency, international corporate diversification, foreign direct investment, multi-nationalization and firm value, multinational capital structure, and international corporate governance. It is imperative that students read all the research papers with an asterisk before the first class. Prerequisite: FIN 6500.

III. LEARNING OUTCOMES
Entrance Competencies:

1) Prerequisite: FIN 6500 or an equivalent doctoral course.
2) Knowledge of tools and techniques of finance and accounting as applied mainly in a domestic setting.
3) Course(s) in economics and/or international economics.
4) Basic quantitative skills, basic computer skills, and basic word processing and spreadsheet analysis skills on a personal computer.

Exit Competencies:

By the end of this course, the student will be able to demonstrate and apply skills in international finance in managing the international financial resources of a multinational corporation.

1) Discuss theories and empirical findings of the general literature in the following areas: Foreign exchange market efficiency, foreign exchange and direct investment, international equity listing, international corporate diversification, multi-nationalization and firm value, multi-nationalization and capital costs, international evidence in takeover markets, international corporate governance.
2) Write a research paper that contributes to the current literature.
