ability to integrate the basic HR disciplines is essential to success. This cohesive, competency-based program gives you the knowledge and skills to excel. The course material is relevant, current, and directly applicable to your day-to-day challenges. The program has an educational model that teaches to the SHRM body of knowledge, which means you learn best practices in the industry. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

M o d u l e s   D e s c r i p t i o n

~ Legal Framework and EEO
Employers of all sizes in various industries have incurred significant costs for violating federal, state, and local laws and regulations prohibiting illegal employment-related discrimination. This session reviews what employers should do to comply with Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) laws, regulations, and requirements.

~ Jobs and Recruiting in Labor Markets
Job design is involved with developing jobs that people like to do. This session advances that designing jobs so that they incorporate skill variety, task identity and significance, autonomy and feedback can make for jobs people are more likely to prefer.

~ Training and Development
This session discusses how the training process can be viewed either narrowly or broadly as it is tied to a variety of organizational purposes. In a limited sense, training provides employees with specific, identifiable knowledge and skills for use in their present jobs. Development, however, is broader in scope and focuses on individuals gaining new capabilities useful for both present and future jobs.

~ Performance Management
Effective performance management systems increase the likelihood that employees will perform their jobs well. This session discusses how performance management links organizational strategy to results.

~ Compensation Strategies
Employers must be reasonably competitive with several types of compensation to attract and retain competent employees. This session addresses how a growing number of employers are altering their traditional compensation programs to provide some part of employee’s pay in a variable fashion (i.e. linked to individual, team, and organizational performance).

~ Managing Benefits
Total compensation costs for labor amounts to more than half of total operating costs in many organizations, even more in some service organizations. This session advances that because of their sizeable portion of operational costs, the compensation components of base pay, variable, and benefits require serious and realistic assessment and planning

~ Health, Safety, and Security
Today employees expect their employers to provide work environments that are safe, secure, and healthy. This session discusses how employers in the US and most developed nation embrace the concept of using prevention and control to minimize or eliminate risks in the workplace.

~ Employee Rights and Discipline
The policies and rules that an organization enacts define employee rights at that employer to a certain extent, as well as constrain those rights. This session addresses how management rights today have been restrained as employee rights have been expanded

~ Unions and HR
Although fewer workers choose to join unions today than before, this session identifies the mechanisms that remain in place for a union resurgence if employees feel they need formal representation to deal with management.

~ Strategic HR
Strategic HR management refers to organizational use of employees to gain or keep a competitive advantage against competitors. This session discusses how it does so through the HR department formally contributing to company-wide planning efforts, or simply being knowledgeable about issues facing the organization.
