Professor Frank J. Cavico teaches Business Law and Ethics at the Wayne Huizenga Graduate School of Business and Entrepreneurship of Nova Southeastern University. He has been associated with the University as a full-time faculty member since 1988; and has been involved in an array of teaching responsibilities, at the master’s and doctoral levels, encompassing such subject matter areas as business law, government regulation of business, administrative law, labor law, health care law, and business ethics. He was the principal faculty member in the creation of the required MBA law and ethics course: “The Values of Legality, Morality, and Social Responsibility in Business”; and he presently serves as Lead Professor for that course.
In 2000, he was awarded the Excellence in Teaching Award by the Huizenga School. In 2006, he was honored as the Faculty Member of the Year by the Huizenga School. His fine record is manifested by numerous research endeavors, principally law review articles, in the broad sectors of business law and ethics. His most recent law review publications examined trade secret law and the law of intentional interference with contract, a comparative legal and ethical analysis of “whistleblowing” in the private sector, the tort of intentional infliction of emotional distress in the private employment sector, and the covenant of good faith and fair dealing in the franchise business relationship.
Professor Cavico holds a J.D. degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law and a B.A. from Gettysburg College. He also possesses a Master of Laws degree (LL.M) from the University of San Diego School of Law and a Master’s degree in Political Science from Drew University.
Professor Cavico is licensed to practice law in the states of Florida and Texas. He has worked as a federal government regulatory attorney and as counsel for a labor union; and has practiced general civil law and immigration law in South Florida.
Professor Cavico in 2005 co-authored a text book on business ethics, Business Ethics: Transcending Requirements Through Moral Leadership, with Huizenga School faculty member Dr. Bahaudin Mujtaba. The book has been adopted as a text by several schools. In 2008,they also authored two other textbooks: Legal Challenges for the Global Manager and Entrepreneur, and Business Law for the Entrepreneur and Manager. They also authored a scholarly book on age discrimination, called Age Discrimination in Employment: Cross Cultural Comparison and Management Strategies. Drs. Cavico and Mujtaba are donating a portion of their royalties from the sale of their text books to the Huizenga School to fund a scholarship for students, called the "Business Ethics and Global Corporate Social Responsibility" scholarship.
Professor Cavico is married; and he and his wife, Nancy, a Registered Nurse and adjunct nursing professor, who also holds a Legal Assistant Certificate from NSU, reside in Lauderdale-by-the Sea, Florida. They co-authored law review articles on nursing malpractice law and the employment at will doctrine and the nursing profession.
