Mr. Charlie Harrington

Mr. Harrington joined Nova Southeastern University in 1986 as an adjunct faculty member teaching Statistics and Economics for the MBA and executive MBA in Banking programs. In later years he developed and taught Real Estate Economics for the MBA in Real Estate program and Macroeconomics and Comparative Economic Systems for the MIBA program. He joined the Undergraduate Business Administration department in the Farquhar Center on a full time basis in November of 1988 as a faculty coordinator and lecturer in Economics.

After joining the Huizenga School in 2003 as a full time faculty member, he became the lead instructor for all undergraduate economics courses including Principles of Economics, Intermediate Macroeconomics, Intermediate Microeconomics, Monetary Theory and Policy (Money and Banking), International Economics, Econometrics and Business Statistics. In addition to his undergraduate responsibilities, he also teaches Economic Thinking in the MBA program. In December of 2005 Mr. Harrington was recognized as the "Outstanding Undergraduate Teacher of the Year" in the Huizenga School.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Mr. Harrington is actively involved in academic research. With Dr. Rebecca Abraham, Mr. Harrington has published articles in the Journal of Business and Leadership as well as the Review of Accounting and Finance. They have also presented numerous papers at a variety of conferences primarily in the area of finance.

Mr. Harrington graduated with a BS degree in Business Administration with a minor in Economics from Lowell Technological Institute in 1973. That year he received a graduate fellowship to Northeastern University in Boston, MA where he began to pursue his graduate studies in Human Resource and Urban / Regional Economics. In 1975 he completed all coursework and examinations for the Ph.D. in Economics and joined the faculty at Northeastern University on a full time basis. Here he taught Statistics, Mathematical Economics, and Macro and Microeconomics at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. In addition to his teaching duties, he was a member of the Center for Labor Market Studies at Northeastern University where he contributed to numerous publications that evaluated the economic and non-economic outcomes of various Federal and State employment and training programs. In 1977 he accepted a two-year appointment to the Economics faculty at Bentley College in Waltham MA. During this same period he was appointed by Governor Francis Sargent to serve a two-year period as a member of the Board of Trustees of Lowell Technological Institute and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Lowell Technological Institute Research Foundation. Upon completing these terms he was appointed by Governor Michael Dukakis to serve a two year term as a member of the Massachusetts Advisory Council on Vocational / Technical Education.

In 1978 he accepted a position with the Speaker of the House of Representatives in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He was assigned as legislative assistant to the Chairman of the Committee on Urban Affairs. Here he assisted in researching and evaluating the economic impact of proposed legislation that came before the committee, specifically legislation on housing finance issues. After a two-year period working with the Committee on Urban Affairs he returned to Northeastern University to continue to teach and pursue his research interests until 1985 when he moved to Florida.
