Dr. Jane Gibson

Jane Whitney Gibson is a Professor of Management with the Huizenga School of Business & Entrepreneurship where she received the Faculty of the Year award in 2001 for outstanding achievements in scholarship, service, and teaching. Gibson teaches management classes at the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral level in both on ground and online formats. Before returning to full time faculty in 2000, Gibson served for 16 years as the Director of Undergraduate Business Programs where she had operational and academic responsibility for four degree programs offered to almost 2000 students in a variety of locations including the Bahamas, Jamaica, Panama, and Israel. Gibson pioneered the BPM Online program, NSU’s first online business program.

Gibson’s research interests are currently in the fields of leadership and online education. She has authored or coauthored four books including The Supervisory Challenge and Organizational Communication: A Managerial Perspective. Her articles have appeared in journals including The Academy of Management Executive, The Journal of Leadership Studies, and SAM’s Advanced Management Journal. Recent articles include “Management Fads: Emergence, Evolution, & Implications for Managers’ (Academy of Management Executive, November, 2001) and “Web-Based Training: What Supervisors Need to Know” (Supervision, December 2003). Gibson also serves as the Editor for the Huizenga School’s Journal of Applied Management and Entrepreneurship (JAME) as well as an editorial board member on The Journal of Organizational and Leadership Studies, The Journal of International Public Administration, and SAM Advanced Management Journal.

Gibson’s professional associations include the IEEE Professional Communication Society, the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the Southern Management Association, the Society for the Advancement of Management, and the Academy of Management where she has just completed a three year term of office as Director of Membership. Gibson served as Track Chair for the SMA annual conference for 2003 and is a founding member of the Association for Tertiary Institutions in the Bahamas (ATIB) where she serves on the Executive Committee.

Gibson earned her DBA at NSU as well as an MS in Human Resource Management. Her undergraduate degree was in Sociology from Fairleigh Dickinson University. She is also affiliated with the Center for Leadership Studies in Escondido, California and is a Certified Situational Leadership Trainer.
