Dr. Judith Harris

Dr. Harris has taught at Nova Southeastern University since 1996. Her teaching assignments have been in the accounting and finance areas. She has taught at both the graduate and undergraduate levels on the Fort Lauderdale campus, as well as in the Bahamas, Jamaica, Israel, and Miami. In addition to teaching, Dr. Harris has served on many academic committees, including a three-year tenure as chairperson of the Faculty Development Committee. She has also been faculty advisor to the Accounting Club, a student run association, for several years.
Prior to joining NSU, Dr. Harris taught accounting at several institutions in the Northeast, including Bryant College, Suffolk University, and The University of Massachusetts at Lowell. At the same time, she was active in the Boston Accounting Research Colloquium, a New England wide association of university and college accounting professors. She made several presentations before that forum. Dr. Harris also was a member of the Behavioral Accounting Research Forum.
Dr. Harris has been a member of the American Accounting Association for many years and has served on several of its committees. She was New England coordinator for the Management Accounting Section for several years. Dr. Harris has also been a member of the Institute of Management Accountants since 1990 and has participated in many of its activities. She received her Certified Management Accountant professional designation in 1990, as well.
Before entering the academic profession, Dr. Harris worked as an auditor in a local New York City accounting firm. Upon completion of her master's in business administration, she joined a Boston consulting firm, where she gained expertise in the accounting systems and data processing areas.
Dr. Harris earned her bachelor's in business administration from the University of Wisconsin, where she majored in accounting and finance. She received her master's in business administration from Boston University, where she concentrated in accounting and information systems. Dr. Harris graduated as valedictorian of her class. In 1988, Dr. Harris was awarded her doctorate in business administration from Boston University. Her major area was accounting, while her minor area was organizational behavior. The title of her dissertation was “A Field Study in Cost Accounting Systems”. She has made many presentations to both academic and community groups – discussing accounting and finance issues. Her current research interests lie in the areas of cost and managerial accounting.
