Dr. Hyung Baek

Dr. H. Young Baek joined Huizenga School in 2001 after two years of service at the University of Texas-Pan American, and is now the Faculty Chair of Economics/Finance Area and Associate Professor of Finance. Dr. Baek graduated from Yonsei University (BBA, cum laude) in Seoul, and received a full scholarship to complete his master's in international business studies program at the University of South Carolina (the USC). After serving the ROK Army as a General's Aide in the Tiger Division, Dr. Baek received his Ph.D. in international finance from the USC in 1999.

Dr. Baek currently teaches master's and doctoral courses in corporate finance and international finance, and conducts scholarly researches in the areas of international corporate finance: Agency theory, corporate governance and management compensation, foreign exchange, foreign direct investment and real estate. Dr. Baek has published in the leading academic journals like Asia-Pacific J. of Economics and Business (APJEB), Atlantic Economic J. (AEJ), International Journal of Accounting and Information Management (IJAIM), International Review of Economics and Finance (IREF), J. of Accounting & Finance Research (JAFR), J. of International Business and Economics (JIBE), J. of International Business Studies (JIBS), J. of Multinational Financial Management (JMFM), Latin American Business Review (LABR), Multinational Business Review (MBR), and Quarterly J. of Business and Economics (QJBE).

Dr. Baek won the best paper award from 2008 Institute of Behavioral and Applied Management Conference, and the 'Best Paper in Corporate Finance' award from Midwest Finance Association in 2002. Dr. Baek presented research papers at national and international conferences like AIB, AMA, EFA, FMA, MWFA, SFA, and SWFA.

Dr. Baek has also been actively serving the academic community as an editorial board member for the International Research J. of Finance and Economics, as ad hoc reviewers for China Economic Review, Financial Review, International J. of Accounting and Information Management, International J. of Conflict Management, J. of Accounting & Finance Research, J. of International Business Studies, J. of Multinational Financial Management, J. of Risk and Finance, Multinational Business Review, and Review of Financial Economics, and as program reviewers for EFA, MFA, SFA, and SWFA.

He has won a Faculty Research Grant, Faculty Development Grants, Title III Mini-grants, and a NAFSA grant. Dr. Baek holds an active Florida Real Estate Broker's license, and has consulted some of the large multinational corporations in construction and energy sectors.
