Dr. Terrell Manyak

Dr. Manyak received his bachelor's in science degree from California State University at Northridge. He went on to obtain his master's in public administration degree from the Syracuse University Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. After graduation, he worked for the Alaska Legislative Council in helping that state complete the transition from territorial status to statehood. Dr. Manyak then returned to California to pursue a Ph.D. from UCLA. As part of his graduate program, he was asked by the US Department of State to teach public administration courses at the University of Khartoum in the Sudan Republic and to work with the Ministry of the Interior in writing a new constitution for the country. He also received a grant from the Rockefeller Foundation to study political leadership problems within Sudan Republic.

Dr. Manyak returned to UCLA where he became involved with the Tavistock Institute (London) in studying socio-technical systems. His dissertation focused on developing computerized models of the cognitive structures of five city councils in the Los Angeles area. His dissertation was nominated by the UCLA faculty for the William H. White award. Dr. Manyak was then invited to join the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. His primary role was to develop new administrative systems for managing human resources. He also did extensive work in the areas of equal employment opportunity and labor relations. He was a contributing author to the American Society for Personnel Administration Handbook on Personnel and Industrial Relations. He also taught public administration courses at Baruch and John Jay Universities.

Dr. Manyak assumed his full-time academic career by joining California State University at San Bernardino as assistant dean. He then became chair of the business department at Lewis Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho, where he researched economic development problems of the state. Dr. Manyak joined Nova Southeastern University in 1992 as the associate director of the undergraduate business program. His initial project was to develop a management information system for off-campus programs. He also prepared licensure and accreditation reports for the Farquhar College. In 2002 he left administration to become a full-time professor of public administration. He received a Rotary Foundation Grant to teach at Uganda Christian University for the 2008-2009 academic year and conducted research on local governance issues in that country.

Dr. Manyak is very active in the community. He served as Assistant Governor for Rotary in South Florida, devotes time to working with Rotary international exchange students, and serves as the faculty advisor to the NSU Rotaract Club. Dr. Manyak actively publishes in the area of public administration, public policy and comparative cultures. His research has appeared in Critical Perspective on International Business, Public Personnel Management, Urban Systems, Midwest Journal of Business and Economics, Journal of Global Business, and Computers, Environment, and Urban Systems. He is also active in the Academy of Management, American Society for Public Administration, and the International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration.
