Dr. Tim McCartney

Timothy McCartney is a Clinical Psychologist and an Organizational Development Consultant. He is also a Professor of Management at the H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship, Nova Southeastern University, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

He was educated in the Bahamas, USA, Switzerland, Jamaica, England and France where he received his doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Strasbourg, summa-cum-laude (tres honorable).

Dr. McCartney returned to the Bahamas in 1967, and was appointed to serve in Ministry of Health of the Bahamas. He was the first Bahamian to obtain a doctorate in Psychology and was directed to develop the profession of Psychology and Allied Health.

He created many innovative programs in the field of mental health and was instrumental in starting organizations that focused on primary difficulties as well as wellness/preventive issues.

Dr. McCartney has wide experience in the field of clinical psychology and since 1980, as an Organizational Development consultant, advisor, trainer and facilitator for many local and multi-national companies in the Bahamas and around the world. He travels extensively teaching courses, consulting, conducting seminars/workshops and giving speeches to community and professional organizations. He has taught courses and given presentations at the University of Taipei, Taiwan, China, Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, New Jersey, USA and at DINABRAS, Rio-de-Janeiro, Brazil

He holds memberships in the Academy of Management, the American Psychological Association, the American Psychological Society and the French, British, Bahamian and Caribbean Psychological Associations. He serves on many national and international Boards; was President of the Bahamas Mental Health Association, and also administered 26 countries as President of the Caribbean Federation for Mental Health. He has written scientific articles, books, chapters for textbooks, articles for magazines and produced educational films.

He has received many awards and citations for his contributions to Psychology and Mental Health from the Bahamas as well as Foreign Countries. In 1969, he received the prestigious Sir Victor Sassoon’s “Golden Heart Award” for his contributions to the Bahamian community. In 1997, the Ministry of Health in the Bahamas had the Child Guidance Center building renamed the “Dr. Timothy McCartney Building”. He has also received the “Gold Medal of Excellence” from DINABRAS and IPARC, (Brazilian/American Organizations) for his significant contributions in the field of psychology and mental health in the Americas. He received the 1998 “Excellence in Teaching” award from the School of Business and Entrepreneurship, Nova Southeastern University, and in May 29, 1999, the “Excellence in Teaching Award” for “outstanding contribution to the development of graduate level education in Jamaica” for 15 consecutive years.
He was honored by the National Association of The Bahamas (Miami, Florida) for his “commitment to the betterment of society” November 13, 1999 and received the “KEY” to the city of Miami-Dade County from the office of the Mayor.
On September 9, 2002, attended by dignitaries from around the world, he was honored as a “Health Hero” by the Pan American Health Organization of the United Nations (at their 100th anniversary celebration) for his outstanding contributions to Psychology and Allied Health.
Dr Mccartney, in March 2007, was the first professor to be named to an endowed Chair;the "Paul Hersey Chair in Leadership and Organizational Behavior." Dr.McCartney was named "Student's Choice" Professor of the Year 2008/2009.
