Dr. Pedro F. Pellet

Dr. Pedro F. Pellet is Professor of Economics and Statistics at H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship. He has been a full-time teacher at Nova Southeastern University since April 1st, 1982, and has attended higher education centers in Cuba, Great Britain, Puerto Rico, Spain and U.S.A. Dr. Pellet completed the requirements for a Baccalaureate Superior from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain; a B.Sc. in Biology (Summa cum Laude) from the University of the Sacred Heart, Santurce, Puerto Rico; two B.A.’s (Summa cum Laude) in Economics and Political Sciences and an M.A. in Economics (Awarded the highest honor in Economics: The Economics Medal) from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus; M.Phil in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science, U. K., and a Ph.D. in International Affairs with specialties in Economic Development and the Developmental Process from the University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida, U.S.A.
Dr. Pedro F. Pellet currently teaches undergraduate, master's and doctoral courses. He also supervises dissertations and conducts scholarly researches in the areas of Applied Socioeconomics.
He is interested in teaching, researching and writing. He has enjoyed playing chess (University of the Sacred Heart and Nova Southeastern University Champion), swimming, diving, cycling, judo and the pursuit of the arts, in general, and classical music, in particular. Dr. Pellet has established clubs of chess at the University of the Sacred Heart and other Universities in Puerto Rico through the Comité Inter-Universitario de Recreación de Puerto Rico.
His teaching philosophy is based on the following principles: 1)-The primacy of spiritual values. 2)-Respect for human dignity. 3)-The integral development of all members of the human family. 4)-The search for truth and justice among all women and men. 5)-Faith in education as a means of improving both societies and humanity. 6)-A mission of service to the people. 7)-A pledge to the ideal of representative democracy and the protection of minorities. In accordance with these principles, he dedicates his professional life to develop an intellectual and moral environment in which the arts and sciences may be cultivated. In this context, he hopes that students will grow as persons, master the knowledge which will help them to attain their aspirations, and effectively integrate them into society.
Dr. Pellet has taught and/or conducted research in five continents and twenty-six countries. His doctoral dissertation on Input-Output analysis applied to Cuba, was personally influenced by Professor Wassily W. Leontief (Nobel Prize in Economics, 1973). He was taught by Professor Amartya Sen (Nobel Prize in Economics, 1998) at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
