Dr. Ruth Clarke

Dr. Ruth Clarke is Chair for International Business and an Associate Professor in the H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship at Nova Southeastern University. From 1998 to 2002, Dr. Clarke was Director of the Master of International Business Administration program and Director for the day MBA program from 1999 to 2002.
Dr. Clarke holds an M.S. degree and a Ph.D. in Strategic Management from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, U.S.A., and a B.A.Hons in Sociology from Reading University, U.K. Dr. Clarke’s academic career includes appointments at Suffolk University, Boston, Madrid Business School, Spain, and the University of New Hampshire. During her studies she taught at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and Western New England College. With an emphasis on international business, Dr. Clarke teaches courses in Strategic Management, Global Strategy, New Venture Creation and Entrepreneurship, Global Management, and Strategic International Decisions. Dr. Clarke develops, organizes and leads the International Field Sembinar course, which has visited Argentina, Brazil, China, Cuba, The Czech Republic, Dubai, Great Britain, India, Mexico, S. Africa, and Uruguay.
An active scholar, Dr. Clarke is a recipient of the NSU President's Faculty Research and Development Award, 2007, and has numerous journal and conference publications. Her current focus of research is on social capital, performance and the internationalization of entrepreneurial emerging market firms, with a special focus on social capital and bicultural identity integration. Other research areas are risk in the international environment, international market entry, and global strategy for SMEs. She has served as Track Chair for the Eastern Academy of Management, and been a Presenter, Reviewer, Chair, and Discussant for the Strategic Management Society, Academy of International Business, Academy of Management, Eastern Academy of Management and the Decision Sciences Institute.
Dr. Clarke was born in the United Kingdom of Great Britain, and has extensive international travel and work experience. She has lived in Iran, Belgium, Spain, Turkey, West Indies and the USA and travels worldwide. She has had a non-linear career, ranging from working on the Cunard ship, Queen Elizabeth II, on the "around the world cruise", to running her own business in London, U.K., to sailing across the Mediterranean from Turkey to Majorca, to her present position at Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Clarke is currently a Director of Windstar Technologies, Boston, Massachusetts.
