Dr. Shashank Rao

Dr. Shashank S. Rao is Assistant Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management at Nova Southeastern University. He received his Ph.D. in Supply Chain Management from the University of Kentucky in 2009 and holds a B.S. in Environmental Science and Engineering and an M.B.A in Marketing from India.

Dr. Rao’s research interests focus on logistics strategy, customer service, and logistics issues in online retailing. He also has interest in the development and implementation of lean and agile supply chain strategies. He has published and continues to publish articles in academic and professional journals, including the Journal of Business Logistics, International Journal of Logistics Management, International Journal of Physical Distribution & Logistics Management, Journal of Electronic Commerce Research, The Information Society, and the International Journal of Medical Informatics along with numerous conference proceedings. Dr. Rao has been awarded the Gatton Research Challenge award – a competitive award in the Gatton College of Business and Economics, awarded to doctoral students who demonstrate strong evidence of scholarly activity. Additionally, Dr. Rao was the Gatton College nominee for the Dissertation Year Fellowship – an award for which every college at the University of Kentucky is only allowed to nominate one candidate.

Dr. Rao has conducted seminars on the topics of supply chain management, transportation management, and lean logistics for several organizations. In addition, Dr. Rao has led or participated in projects with many corporations, including Lexmark International, and The North American Transportation Security Center, among others. In addition, at the University of Kentucky, he was a core part of a team that generated over $ 500,000 in research grants, for next generation supply chain research. Prior to entering academia, Dr. Rao worked as a banker in ICICI Bank, which is India’s largest private sector bank, and Citibank N.A.

In his spare time, Dr. Rao loves working out and rock climbing. In the next one year, he hopes to run a full marathon, for which he is currently training.
